Rabies and Transboundary Animal Diseases (TADs) Annual Review and Planning Meeting
The Directorate of Veterinary Services, under the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform, together with the Ministry of Health and Social Services, the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture, partner organisations, and other stakeholders, convened in Ondangwa for the Rabies and Transboundary Animal Diseases (TADs) Annual Review and Planning Meeting, reinforcing Namibia’s commitment to eliminating rabies. Since the launch of the national rabies control programme in 2016, the country has recorded a sharp decline in human rabies deaths from over 20 cases annually to just one or two, while dog vaccination coverage has increased to over 60%.
National SPS Committee Validation Workshop and Meeting in Swakopmund from 13–17 April 2026
The Ministry, acting as the country’s Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS), National Notification Authority (NNA), and National Enquiry Point under the World Trade Organisation, is proud to host the very first National SPS Committee Validation Workshop and Meeting in Swakopmund from 13–17 April 2026. This milestone event brings together key stakeholders to strengthen Namibia’s SPS coordination and ensure our active involvement in regional (SADC), continental (AU, AfCFTA), and global (WTO) SPS discussions. Zambezi Region | Ministry Support for Flood-Affected Farmers. The Ministry has deployed 10 tractors to assist farmers affected by flooding, helping to relocate 57.5 tonnes of crops to safety areas across Masokotwani, Zilitene, Machita, Lusu, Mbilajwe, Muyako, Linyanti, and Sangwali. So far, 14 farmers have benefited from this ongoing intervention, which will continue until 17 April 2026.To further support affected communities, two 10,000-litre water tanks have been deployed to the relocation centre, along with arrangements for mobile sanitation facilities.These efforts are focused on protecting livelihoods and safeguarding the well-being of displaced, flood-affected farmers. #FloodRelief #DisasterResponse #ZambeziRegion #CommunitySupport
