45th Sherpa Meeting of the High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy, taking place from 20–22 May 2026 in Lisbon, Portugal
The Government of the Republic of Namibia, represented by the Minister responsible for Marine Resources, Honourable Inge I. Zaamwani; Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries Water and Land Reform, is participating in the 45th Sherpa Meeting of the High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy, taking place from 20–22 May 2026 in Lisbon, Portugal.
Namibia’s participation underscores the country’s continued commitment to advancing a sustainable ocean economy that promotes economic growth, environmental stewardship, and social inclusion. The meeting brings together Sherpas and technical representatives from member countries to deliberate on key ocean-related priorities, including sustainable fisheries, ocean finance, marine biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and the blue economy agenda. The Sherpa Meeting provides an important platform for member countries to exchange knowledge, strengthen partnerships, and shape collective action toward the sustainable use and protection of ocean resources. Namibia continues to advocate for the sustainable management of marine resources, equitable benefit-sharing, and enhanced international cooperation to unlock the full potential of the ocean economy.
Locust Outbreak reported in parts of the Hardap and Erongo regions
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform is taking action to contain a locust outbreak reported in parts of the Hardap and Erongo regions, deploying response teams and initiating spraying operations in affected areas. According to ministry spokesperson Romeo Muyunda, the outbreak was recorded in the Daweb constituency in Hardap, where between 300 and 400 square kilometres are believed to be affected, as well as in the Walvis Bay Rural constituency near the Gobabeb Research Centre in Erongo.
